Mexico Day 2, Feb 14th 2007

Slept in to at least 9am, this is excellent for me as I usually wake much earlier these days! Put our shorts on and headed into town for some breakfast. We stopped at this little Italian bakery/pizzeria, which at first I was disappointed in our choice as I wanted something “Mexican”, but after the first bite I was not longer unhappy! I had bread pudding and sara some kind of tart and both had coffee. The pastries were delicious and the same for the coffee. The prices were cheap, about $3 for the both of us and I knew I would be coming back later for a cappuccino after experiencing how good their coffee was.

We decided to spend the morning walking around San Pancho. I can’t tell you how cool it is here. There is many tourist oriented shops, but they are very quaint and the keepers are friendly and not pushy like I experienced in the Dominican Republic. We walked by several of the local schools and watched the children playing, one had a Santa clause piƱata the students were trying to break. We found a store selling mostly hard liquor and bought some tres (name??) tequila that in the states would cost $35-40 but was only $23 for a fifth, melon liqueur, and 10 limes. With that we were ready to head back to the bungalow to make drinks for the beach, the only other stop needed was back at the Italian bakery where I got a cappuccino to go and it was tasty!

Back at the bungalow's Lydia was giving out fresh coconuts with the tops opened. She gave me two of them and asked me to drink from one. I tried it and it was very good. I took the coconuts in so we could later use them for rum drinks.

We made our drinks and headed onto the beach. The bungalows sit between 2 beaches, the one on the left is only available when the tide is out and fortunately it was at this time so we headed in that direction. The other beach is much wider and open while this one had many tucked away coves that are private and you feel completely alone. We walked for about a quarter mile and found a spot we liked. Basked in the sun for a while and then played in the surf. The water is perfect temperature and there are huge waves crashing nearly on the beach so it was a lot of fun. Only downside is you can’t really swim.
